What’s the best way to meet new people while traveling?
Having recently moved to spain for a while, long or short, I do not know yet but on the basis of it being quite sometime, I need to hablar espanol !
So what have I done so far, to meet people? I went straight to social media…I checked and joined every platform associated with this town, in the Alpujarras.
I asked questions and engaged with the various groups. Have joined a spanish class, a language exchange class, a cultural community group…talked about setting up a writing group and generally chatted with locals and other ex pats.
I go to bars, restaurants and cafes and practice my spanish. I eavesdrop on other people chatting trying to get my ear accustomed to the language. I order my food and drink en espanol to try fit in.
If, I go to other places to travel, then I guess I would just check online platforms, seek out groups and possible meet ups with like minded people…. if I want to meet up that is. Sometimes, its just nice to observe and sit back and enjoy your own company !
